The two main types of connections for steel structures are welding and bolting.

bolting
welding

Welded Connection:

Welded connections are made by heating the joint portions of two or more steel members to a molten state, bringing them into contact in the molten state, and then cooling them to become one piece.

The welded connection has the advantages of high strength, good rigidity, strong connection sealing, etc. It is suitable for occasions with high requirements for connection strength and high requirements for structural stability.

The disadvantage of welded connections is that they require certain welding techniques and technology, are difficult to dismantle, and are not suitable for frequent dismantling occasions.

Bolt connection:

Bolt connection is through the bolt to connect the steel components, through the threads of the force transfer to realize the structure of the connection.

Bolt connection has the advantages of easy disassembly and installation, and easy quality control, applicable to the need to adjust the occasion.

The disadvantage of bolted connection is that loosening occurs at the connection point, which requires regular inspection and maintenance; limited by the number and diameter of bolts, the strength of the connection is relatively low compared to welding.

The difference between welded and bolted connections:

Nature: A welded connection is formed by melting steel and cooling it into one piece to form a continuous connection, while the bolted connection is formed by bolting the components together to form an indirect connection.

Disassembly: Welded connections are not easy to disassemble, while bolted connections are easy to disassemble and adjust.

Applicable occasions: Welded connections are suitable for occasions requiring high structural strength and stability, while bolted connections are suitable for occasions requiring adjustment and disassembly.

Technological requirements: Welded connections require skillful welding techniques and technology, while the bolt connection has relatively low technical requirements.

In summary, welding connection and bolt connection have their advantages and disadvantages, the specific choice should be based on the actual project needs and requirements.
