Due to the increase in the variety of steel, there are many forms of components that can be selected in the structural design. For example, the steel beam can be in the form of a constant section and variable section, and the material can be Q235 ordinary carbon steel or Q345 low-alloy steel. When designing, materials with high strength grades should be used as much as possible. For example, the use of Q345 steel can save 15% to 25% of steel compared with the use of Q235 steel. Economical section profiles, such as hot-rolled H-beams, T-beams, etc., should also be used in the design. In some cases, the use of hot-rolled H-beams may use slightly more steel than welded H-beams, but from the processing cost, construction progress, etc.

Considering all aspects, the space frame cost may be more advantageous. Take the color steel plate commonly used in space frames as an example. Color steel plates are generally used for house panels and wall panels in space frame factories. There are different plate types, different plate thicknesses and different coatings. Sandwich panels, composite panels, etc., among which the insulation layer has different types and thicknesses such as glass wool, rock wool, polystyrene, etc. These differences will cause differences in material cost prices, thereby affecting the total space frame cost projects.

Therefore, in the design, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as the nature of the space frame workshop, the load situation, the surrounding environment, etc., reasonably select the plates, and control the project space frame cost.​​

The influence of different structural systems and facade layouts on the project space frame cost is obvious. In the design stage, only by determining a reasonable level and elevation layout and structural system according to the functional requirements of the building, can the project cost be effectively controlled and economical, and applicable.
